A two-player interactive movie,
made to be played together.

We want two people to share something
that is truly theirs — laughter, tears,
and things to talk about.
Plenty of films and games are made for one person.
But when two people try to do something together,
too often one plays — and the other just watches.

So we made both of you the leads: choosing together on screen;
negotiating, competing and trusting each other off screen —
seeing one another anew, and writing an ending that belongs only to you two.

Story Overview
1941. Shanghai,
the "Isolated Island."
A bank explosion ties two strangers' fates together.

You play Lu Weicheng and Yan Shu — who, to escape pursuit and interrogation, must pose as husband and wife.

Around the city's currency and its lifelines, a covert financial war ignites. Assassination, counterfeit notes and conspiracy follow — and the pair must bluff, investigate, infiltrate and rescue as one.

Every secret kept may save your partner — or push you both into the abyss. As the act slowly becomes real, they must choose their own roads, yet share a single ending.
Between love, conviction and the times — can they still trust each other, and walk together into a new world that hasn't yet arrived?

Why We Made This
Creative Intent
We are ALT Lab, a young studio devoted to interactive storytelling. Our members range from a Cannes-exhibited avant-garde producer, to a video-codec specialist, to a VFX director from animated feature film — united by a love of narrative games. With in-house writing, game design and engineering, we build interactive stories that move people.

This project lets us pour years of craft — scriptwriting, game design, interaction, seamless video playback — into one innovative interactive film, on a theme we deeply relate to: searching for yourself alongside the friends who shared your youthful confusion.

We believe stories give people strength. Interactive content is this era's emerging cultural medium — and it can carry this era's memory.

From theme to rule of play
Since Flight From Room 13, we have cared about what goes unheard between people. In New World, we turn "understanding" from a theme into a rule of play: two players enter separate roles, see different information and carry their own tasks — and each answer, judgment and choice changes what the other faces next. Conversation is no longer around the game; it is the game.

To test that bond, we send both players back to 1941 Shanghai — a story of identity, lies, evidence and protection. From probing each other to improvised cover stories, from splitting up to saving each other, two people must trust across incomplete information and share the consequences of every choice. History here isn't a backdrop to look at, but a predicament two people walk through.

Screens are our generation's most familiar companionship — and also a familiar distance: two people together, each absorbed in a world of their own. Our hope is that these two screens become a bridge — plan together, err together, save each other — and leave you with a memory only the two of you understand. May everyone who enters New World be no one's audience and no one's sidekick, but the irreplaceable lead of each other's story.
